2. Ciudad Vieja (Old City)

Montevideo has plenty of Old World charm, including a blend of Spanish, Italian and Art Deco architecture. Much of this is evidenced in the Old City that centers around Plaza Independencia. The area has iron gates and old fashioned street lamps in addition to hosting a large number of antique shops, restaurants and attractions. It is also near the city's popular Mercado Puerto (Port Market).The area is currently being revitalized and is losing much of the reputation it once had for being a seedier section of town.   (© 10Best)
