Retro-chic A Go-Go is a definite favorite. The music runs from 70s disco to 80s New Wave and beyond, the décor is a mix of mod and kitsch, and the drink menu is dotted with monikers like Sweet Tart, Mr. Freeze, Pink Panther and A Clockwork Orange. It all adds up to a groovy good time, Baby!

This venue features great live concerts from top independent bands and performers. Depending on the night, you'll find blues music or a variety of other genres. The décor isn't elaborate, but the music more than compensates. It's a fantastic place to come with friends, nurse a beer, and enjoy the sounds of the talented performers. The club also offers great DJ-mixed dance music that's popular with locals and tourists alike.

With walls draped in velvet, a dance platform that glows in checkerboard brights and the can't-do-without sparkling mirrorball overhead, dancers can groove to the musical stylings of the era, or on Thursdays the weekly homage to the sounds of French pop from the 50s, 60s and 70s. Don't miss Martin Stevens reprising his hit Love is in the Air every Friday and Saturday.

For the ultimate in people-watching and chic dining, Globe is the destination of choice. High ceilings and upholstered banquettes set the scene for a troupe of attractive servers delivering substantial portions of fantastic food to an appreciative clientele. Everything on the menu is carefully prepared using only the best ingredients. Homemade desserts and a good wine list add to the appeal. At night, the place becomes a social and drinking environment where patrons often move from table to table, laughing, chatting and talking into the night. It's also not unheard-of to spot a celebrity or two.

Funky and well-attended, this lounge is one of Montréal's top nightlife venues. The retro-chic establishment is famed for its martinis, and you can choose from among 50 different formulations. Each night, too, musicians perform everything from jazz and R&B to swing, funk and salsa. Patrons are invited to dance or just lounge while enjoying the tunes. Pool tables also provide distraction, or you can always chat with other club-goers around you. If you're lucky, you may spot a celebrity or two. The place's reputation has drawn such stars as Nicholas Cage and Bruce Willis.

For a real taste of local flavor, head over to this neighborhood pub, which has been an area favorite for many years. People congregate here for drinks (beer especially!) and socializing, and it's a great place to meet people. Another perk is the terrific local music that you'll find. Québécois singers serenade the crowd with folk and pop tunes, and everything is sung in French. Much of the conversation happens in French, too. Still, don't let that stop you from coming. You don't have to dress up, and everyone's very friendly; even a non-French speaker may have one of the best evenings of their trip. Outdoor patio available during warm weather.

This complex has been a mainstay on Crescent Street since 1967, and helped usher in the nightlife for which the area has become famous. In addition to two outdoor terraces overlooking Crescent, there are three floors, each with its own distinct personality: the cozy Sir Winston Churchill Pub, the more upscale Winnies Bar and Restaurant, and a stylish dance club/lounge called Karina. In the pub, enjoy a game of pool or darts and a pint of your favorite beer, a pitcher of sangria or a cocktail. If it's food you're after, try Winnies Bar and Restaurant, where you'll find a great selection of traditional and international fare (the same menu is offered in the pub). Finally, there's Karina, a sleek space where world class DJs keep the grooves coming into the wee hours.

Cozy and popular, Tokyo has two separate spaces, so whether you feel like chilling out with friends or dancing up a storm, you can do it here. DJs and occasional live bands liven up one space, but the lounge and two rooftop terraces provide ample room to escape to a less manic scene if the mood strikes you. Eclectic, creative martinis are the drink of choice.

A reputation for terrific Continental (especially Spanish) cuisine and a desire to book talented musicians has earned Upstairs a loyal following and a growing clientele. The restaurant serves flavorful dishes that mix the smokiness of grilled meats and seafood with liqueur-tinged sauces, fresh vegetables and the sweetness of lush fruits. The relaxed atmosphere is also conducive to great jazz artists, both local and international. At times, you'll also find R&B performers and other styles of music. While you listen to the rhythmic, seductive tones, make sure to enjoy a glass from their wine cellar, or sample a single-malt scotch. Fantastic food and entertainment in one place – what could be better?
