Home of the most famous jazz festival in the world, Montreux is a sophisticated Swiss town for the decidedly non-stressed. Bordered by Lake Geneva and the Chillon Castle on one side, and the Alps and vineyards everywhere else, the town is a walker's dream, an ideal setting for people who insist on sipping cappuccino while feasting on the perfect view. It's a destination for lovers of art, music and architecture and an excellent get-away from big city skylines. It's ideal for hiking and bicycling, but you can certainly take a more leisurely approach – rent a boat, eat at a Michelin-starred restaurant or take a scenic train journey though the wine growing region.
