DOWNTOWN.
A simple, two-story rectilinear structure whose facade boasts two lower-floor doors and two upper-floor windows, the Old Stone House was constructed in 1795. Recognized as the county's oldest structure, the house now shelters a gift and craft shop. In past lives, it functioned as a tannery, tailor's shop, Methodist church, and tavern (among other incarnations).

This is a unique gift shop owned by a service organization with volunteers staffing this 210+ year old historic house. It is the oldest stone dwelling in Monongalia County WV. The hours are limited to 10 am to 2 pm Mon-Sat, but hours are extended during holiday or special events. Proceeds from sales in the gift shop are returned to the community through emergency assistance for the needy and providing other charitable, educational, and cultural activities to those less fortunate. The volunteers are to be commended for their long history of commitment to the community. Purchasing items at the house will mean your dollars are being returned to the community.
