One of the city's most popular tourist spots, this area is a bastion of cultural activities, historic buildings, and shopping and dining establishments. Take the metro to the Odeonsplatz station and walk south along the Residenzstrasse to the platz (circle). Sites include the Cuvillies Theater, Residenz Theater, and National Theater. To soak in the entire region, continue south to the Maximilianstrasse and Marstallplatz, bringing your trip full-circle.

This hip neighborhood north of the city center is bordered to the west by the English garden and features great cafés and restaurants, shopping options, and nightlife venues. Italian, French, and ethnic restaurants abound. Young and vibrant locals make for a great people-watching excursion. For a nice tour, take the subway to the Münchener Freiheit and walk north on the Leopoldstraße.

This hip and fashionable street off the Marienstrasse has the best Italian stores, cafés, bistros, and bars in the city. Spend an entire day shopping for Italian-designed clothes, sipping cappuccino, and people-watching or watching the great German cars that speed down the street.
