PAWLEYS ISLAND. On balmy Pawleys evenings, Webster's deck is ideal for relaxing with a chilled glass of chardonnay or some ice cold sweet tea. Start with sherry-laced she crab soup or fried oysters, and follow with a traditional Southern favorite – shrimp and grits. The tavern menu is a bit more casual but no less tasty: burgers and sandwiches, fried fish and seafood, and salads. At breakfast, the buffet has a full range of favorites, from waffles, fresh fruit, pancakes and pastries to omelets, grits, potatoes and sausage.

LITTLE RIVER. The award-winning Parson's Table, housed in a former church, offers true fine dining in an atmosphere of elegance and intimacy. Beautiful stained glass windows dot the interior, which is comprised of several individual rooms that are equally conducive to special family occasions and romantic dinners for two. Menu choices include prime rub, bacon-wrapped filet mignon topped with béarnaise sauce and crab, sauteed shrimp with ham and vegetables over cheese grits, and sauteed shrimp and scallops in lemon butter with pecans and rice pilaf. Wine suggestions accompany each dish, or you may select something from the vast wine list.

Possible main course selections include the Carriage House Grouper (the house specialty, lightly floured and sautéed and served over a sauce beurre blanc) and goat cheese and Dijon-crusted rack of lamb with rosemary lamb jus. A great place to spend a romantic evening. Reservations are strongly recommended.

MYRTLE BEACH. Since 1974, the Library has offered award-winning upscale French dining. Starched linens and twinkling candles adorn every table, and the romantic atmosphere is ideal for a special occasion or a date. Start with escargot, oysters Rockefeller, or classic onion soup. Caesar salad for two is prepared tableside, as are several entrees and even desserts – Steak Diane and flambé cherries over ice cream make quite an impression. Reservations are recommended.

PAWLEYS ISLAND. Often credited with putting upscale Southern food on the culinary map, Chef Louis Osteen's restaurant has been a favorite since it opened in 2002. Colorful local art livens up the casually stylish interior while the menu gets a boost from traditional Low Country flavors. Appetizers are highlighted by preserved duck with grits and red eye gravy. For your main, try the trademark crab and lobster cakes, or opt for Louis's Big Steak Plate (filet mignon atop hash browns with spicy fried oysters and sauce béarnaise). Even the house-made desserts have regional flair. The adjacent Fish Camp Bar is more casual, with ample outdoor seating and a menu of Southern-style sandwiches and burgers.

MURRELLS INLET. Not at all your run-of-the-mill seafood joint, the Divine Fish House has garnered high praise from a veritable who's who of regional and national publications. The food, as you might expect, is large reason for the place's popular appeal, and the offerings range from superbly-prepared beef and seafood courses to more exotic numbers like sushi. The place's atmosphere also receives high marks. Contemporary and even a tad artsy, Divine bucks the notion that a Murrells Inlet restaurant has to be decorated with nets and taxidermy. If it's nice out, ask for a table on their deck – the view is terrific. For lunch, try Divine's on-site bar, Wahoo's.

7. Frank's Restaurant / Frank's Out Back

PAWLEYS ISLAND. White linen and candlelight set the tone for an elegant experience at Frank's, one of the very best restaurants in Grand Strand region. The award-winning menu of New American dishes includes several unique seafood preparations such as mussels with cilantro, lemongrass and jalapenos, decadent risotto with shrimp, scallops, and mussels, and seared tuna over Thai rice with warm Asian slaw. While retaining the elegance of its parent, Frank's Out Back (literally a separate restaurant behind the original) puts a new spin on casual dining, with similarly inventive cuisine and the addition of some tasty and unusual wood fired pizzas. Service is top-notch at both.

8. Gulfstream Cafe

GARDEN CITY. What a view! Gulfstream is the only restaurant in Myrtle Beach overlooking the ocean on one side and Murrell's Inlet on the other and, fortunately, the food lives up to the view. Recommended starters include the onion loaf (a mass of fried onion rings with bleu cheese dip), kicky N'Awlins shrimp served atop a crispy fried grits cake, she-crab soup and oyster shooters. Popular main courses range from Low Country crab cakes, a variety of fried seafood, garlic crab claws, and grilled or blackened catch of the day. Kids can opt for fried fish, shrimp, chicken fingers, or spaghetti.

MURRELLS INLET. Located on the marsh in an 1860 clapboard house, Oliver's has been a local favorite serving the best seafood since 1910. Incredible seafood served in a rustic and comfortable dining room complete with wood tables and Shaker-style chairs clinging to the walls. The crime novelist, Mickie Spillane, liked this place so much that he got married here.

10. SeaBlue Tapas Restaurant & Bar

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH. A bit of a departure from the more family-oriented places that pepper the Strand, SeaBlue is a sophisticated space that caters to diners with discriminating tastes. The dreamy, marine-blue bar area is the perfect place to enjoy a martini, and the intimate, cafe-style tables are smartly appointed with white linens and candles. The tapas-heavy menu allows guests to enjoy several different dishes over the course of their visit, including pan-seared lump crab cakes, Caribbean jerk-rubbed grouper, and petit filet with crumbled gorgonzola and balsamic syrup. Each dish is delivered to the table when it's prepared, ensuring that your group'll have a new topic of conversation every few minutes.
