GEORGETOWN.   Located in a former horse stable complete with wood floors, this small bakery offers a wide variety of pastries, muffins, specialty sandwiches, coffees and freshly squeezed lemonade. If you happen to be in Georgetown, this is a great and inexpensive place for breakfast or lunch.   (© 10Best)

I visited the Kudzu Bakery and Mercantile with the sole intention of checking out their mercantile section. However, my friend and I accidentally entered the Bakery section first, and it was a very fortunate mistake. After shopping, we went into the bakery to indulge in one of their many tempting deserts. My friend had a slice of their pecan carmel cake while I succombed to the chocolate mousse. Both selections were sinfully decadent. The texture of the mousse was smooth, the flavor rich while not overly sweet. The Pecan Carmel Cake had a nice fluffy texture and the frosting made you want to lick the plate clean. It was definitely a worthwhile trip, and I intend on returning and sampling more of their delicious offerings.

I was a Kudzu regular many moons ago when I worked in Georgetown, and I still make a point to drive to Georgetown when I'm on the South Carolina coast to pick up what has to be the best pecan pie I've ever eaten. Friendly, great food, and that amazing pie. One of the nicest things anyone ever did for me was go to Georgetown and buy me a pie, before coming to DC for a visit.

This is the best bakery I have ever been to. It's not just a bakery there is everything you can imagine, from frog legs and alligator to real southern food such as shrimp dip and red velvet cake it is just divine.
