PAWLEYS ISLAND.   Often credited with putting upscale Southern food on the culinary map, Chef Louis Osteen's restaurant has been a favorite since it opened in 2002. Colorful local art livens up the casually stylish interior while the menu gets a boost from traditional Low Country flavors. Appetizers are highlighted by preserved duck with grits and red eye gravy. For your main, try the trademark crab and lobster cakes, or opt for Louis's Big Steak Plate (filet mignon atop hash browns with spicy fried oysters and sauce béarnaise). Even the house-made desserts have regional flair. The adjacent Fish Camp Bar is more casual, with ample outdoor seating and a menu of Southern-style sandwiches and burgers.   (© 10Best)

You can't go wrong with a visit to Louis's. He's in the house and working his special magic. Great wine list. If nothing else go for the Sunday lunch. Skillet fried chicken, rice and gravy, string beans, squash casserole and several kinds of house made bread all for $12.50. Do yourself a favor. You won't be disappointed.

I love the atmosphere. It is paradise to sit there on a hot summer day and sip on a ice cold Sam Adams Summer Ale while the wife shops. When you close your eyes and go to your 'happy place' ... this is where I go.
