 EDITOR REVIEW: NAPA. Sample award-winning Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Syrah varietals in the rustic, stone-walled tasting room of Donald M. Hess's exclusive estate, set on Mount Veeder. Embracing the Italian concept that the best grapes grow on slopes, Hess purchased 56 acres in 1978 (the estate now exceeds 300 acres) and has since produced some of the Valley's more exceptional wines. The estate features an art gallery as well as a visitors center. 
"Collection" refers to the dramatic art pieces in the multilevel gallery that holds the winery. The wines here have been getting better and better — the best being from the Mt.
