8. North Central College

North Central, a highly ranked private liberal arts college, was founded in Plainfield, IL in 1861, finally settling in Naperville in 1870. The United Methodist Church-affiliated school has a particularly strong performing arts program, and student productions are popular with the community as a whole. The attractive campus is part of the city's picturesque historic downtown district – to take a self guided walking tour, pick up a map (available in most of the buildings on campus).   (© 10Best)
