2. Castel Nuovo (New Castle)

Built in the 13th century by Charles I of Anjou and completely reconstructed in the 15th century. The massive trapezoid-shaped building features an archway offset by cylindrical towers. Inside is an ornate courtyard, which includes the Apartment of the Viceroys, Room of the Barons, and the Palatine Chapel.   (© 10Best)
