The Teatro San Carlo is one of the oldest theaters in the world. It was designed by Giovanni Antonio Medrano under the direction of King Charles of Boubon. It was officially opened in November 1737. Its magnificent architecture and productions are still this opera house's claim to fame. The oldest ballet company in Italy divides its patronage between Milan's Scala and the San Carlo.
