12TH AVENUE SOUTH.   Watermark's upscale, contemporary feel is heightened by colorful modern art and great views of the Nashville downtown. The menu reflects the modern city feel without being overly creative. For example, traditional Southern fare like crawfish, cornbread and grits are paired with meats like veal, pork tenderloin and grouper, resulting in stylish yet tasteful main courses.   (© 10Best)

Classic Southern dishes take on a modern twist here. Just look in the bread basket, and you'll find rosemary sourdough, sliced baguette, cornbread muffins, corn pone, and biscuits that have been cooked up by a fat grandma in the kitchen. The quail wowed us; its deep brown skin carries the hickory-smoked flavor of a Tennessee whiskey barrel. Cheesy grits with a brown molasses sauce and a side of greens let you know that you're really in the South. (from Southern Living)

User Reviews for Watermark

"food fun"
more than a month ago

I adored Watermark, I went there twice on my Jan 2008 trip to Nashville (I live in San Francisco). The service is stellar and the food is the best. It's a very special restaurant and I cannot recommend it highly enough. My favorite dishes were the boar stew, a grits souffle, and the marshmallow and chocolate dessert. The waiters know what wines to recommend, and do not necesarily point you to the most expensive. One night I was on my own and the other night I went back to bring guests. avoided the "chains" and other "recommended" restaurants common on sites. Another great Nashville restaurant is City House, started by a young couple who met while working at Napa's Tra Vigne. They are lovely, I went on a Sunday and sat at the cook's bar which was fun. Unpretentious Italian fare, but spophisticated setting. The owners of City House are friends with the folks behind A16 and SPQR in San Francisco.
