DOWNTOWN. Tired of country music? Check out Fuel on 2nd Avenue. This garage-themed venue features live acoustic and full band sets from rock and alternative groups. Most shows have no cover, so you're left with more money to spend on drinks from either the main bar or the unique tequila bar. GREEN HILLS. Bluebird Café is a must-see for all music fans. The quiet, smoke-free venue is a great place to hear Nashville's up-and-coming singer-songwriters perform before they hit the big time. Garth Brooks and Kathy Mattea are just two well-known singers who have played. Since it's a popular spot, make reservations in advance, and don't forget to observe the "Shhh!" rule while the music's playing! Depending on how big the booked act is, the cover can be as high as $50.

DOWNTOWN. This historic honky-tonk is known for being the home of traditional country music (BR5-49 got their start here!). Come for a night of no-cover live country music, and make sure you grab a burger and a cold can of PBR. Put on your cowboy boots to fit right in with the locals and celebs like Vince Gill and Trace Adkins that have graced the stools of this friendly bar. No boots? Don't worry- the ones lining the walls are for sale!

DOWNTOWN. One of the District's best-known nightclubs, Tootsie's dates back to the 1960s, when Hattie Louise Tatum (aka "Tootsie") opened this downtown honky-tonk and gave stars-in-the-making like Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson a place to play. Today, the lounge has lost little of its original "dive" atmosphere, except for maybe a few added pictures here and there that trace the bar's history. If this is your first trip to Nashville, eschew everything else and head here first.
