PARADISE ISLAND.   Junkanoo Beach, also known as Western Esplanade, is not as wide and sandy as some of the other beaches, and therefore not as crowded, but it's close enough to town to still be an easy option for vacationers without their own transportation. This is a relatively quiet spot most of the year, but during spring break, watch out! One of the few beaches that has public toilets and changing facilities, it's also popular with locals for weekend get-togethers.   (© 10Best)

We visited Nassau in the Bahamas for the first time this May 2008 for our 25th wedding anniversary. We stayed at the Quality Inn in front of Junkanoo Beach. We loved it there! We were on the 6th floor facing the ocean. The service was great. The beach was wonderful. We got to watch the big cruise ships arriving to and leaving from Paradise Island from our room. It was walking distance to great restaurants (like Chez Willie, the Fish Fry, Ichibon, and Conch Fritters) and great cultural experiences (like the local zoo, the Straw Market, the ferry to Paradise Island, and Junkanoo Beach local beach parties). We took the ferry to Paradise Island and walked all around there. We took the tour of the wonderful aquarium at Atlantis and saw amazing fish. Sonya at the front desk of the Quality Inn became our friend. She arranged for us to be picked up at the hotel by Stuart's Cove for an unforgettable snorkeling experience. We were in the water enjoying (close- up) the same type of fish that we had looked at in the aquarium. We recommend that you do it all. What we loved the most is the beautiful blue water and white sand. It was great how our location gave us a very Bahamian experience, not such a touristy one and that we were so close to everything. We took amazing walks along the beach every night. Also we visited Zion Baptist Church and it was a great experience, some of the best preaching you could imagine and a loving community. Check it out!
