The Buzz -- Started in 2003, the Bahamas International Film Festival takes over for four days in December as celebrities, media and film buffs descend on Nassau and Paradise Island for a celebration of film. Thousands of people attend screenings of more than 75 movies by filmmakers from around the world, such as Jim Jarmusch, Stephen Frears, Spike Lee, Christian Alvart, Lars von Trier and Richard Sheppard. The festival includes several special receptions, workshops and panel discussions as well. The audience is as diverse as possible, from average Joes to local celebs like sculptor Antonius Roberts to international names like fashion entrepreneur Peter Nygard. Venues include the Atlantis Theatre, Ardastra Gardens and the Galleria JFK / Theatre; several ticket packages are available.
