8. Union League Cafe

Exceptional
I've eaten as often as I could afford at the Union League Cafe, consistent with trying and enjoying most of New Haven's excellent restaurants, since it was opened as Sherman's Tavern by the lamily of the current proprietors. I have never been disappointed by the quality and elegance of the menu, food, service or overall experience of this wonderful, if costly, restaurant.

Very nice food in a historic location. The service is not outstanding, but far better than its nearby neighbor, Zinc. Pricey for what it is. If you want to stay downtown, this would be my first choice for a classically good restaurant.
