FRENCH QUARTER.   Situated by Jackson Square and St. Louis Cathedral, this bistro adjoins a picturesque courtyard. The house special consists of blackened fish (snapper, catfish, tuna or trout), chicken or steak with jambalaya and sautéed vegetables, and the signature barbecued shrimp in olive oil, rosemary bay leaf and white wine wins raves. A selection of specialty cocktails and martinis adds to this spot's appeal.   (© 10Best)

huge disappointment
after reading the overview here and the restaurant website, we were very excited to visit the Alpine. How could you go wrong with good regional cuisine at a reasonable price? Unfortunately, the entire experience was terrible. The server was flighty and unknowledgeable, our martinis were served half-empty, the staff congregated by the entrance to socialize, and the manager had a fight with the chef right in front of us. As for the food, it was bland and underwhelming. Wish we had stuck with our original plan to eat at Oliviers. Avoid at all costs.

Food was pretty good but the service was very, very slow. 10 minutes for greet. 25 minutes for drinks, 30 minutes for bread and over an hour after that for the main couse. To top it off, our server gave himself an additional 8 dollar tip on top of our 20% tip and after 3 calls to the restauant to get it taken care of I was given to a manager just to be told there was nothing I could do about it and sarcasticly asked if I wanted it sent to me.

Very good food for the price in Nola. If your thinking about going to a more famous/exspensive place, give this place a thought. We shared seven different entrees from Ribs to BBQ shrimp and they were all excellent. Service was elusive at times but good natured.
