About 10Best's New Orleans Attractions & Activities Selections:
Without question, the primary draws in New Orleans are the parties. Mardi Gras, New Years, the Sugar Bowl, Jazz Fest, Halloween – this town's never short on reasons to celebrate. Heck, they even throw pre-celebration celebrations! There is, however, far more substance to the place than street carnivals and live music festivals. History and architecture buffs, for example, often find themselves in awe of the townhouses and buildings that make up the Quarter. Some private homes are open to the public, but one of the best ways to get a feel for the history of the neighborhood is to take part in a guided walking tour – the Haunted History Tours are the most chillingly informative. Also a must: walking the wide boulevards of the Garden District and admiring the Greek Revival mansions with their manicured lawns. Several museums are scattered throughout the city as well, including the Historic New Orleans Collection and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in the Warehouse District. If you're traveling with kids, Audobon Zoo is regarded by many as one of top zoos in the country, and the Aquarium of the Americas, also part of the Audubon Institute, is making a strong comeback after suffering greatly from Katrina.
