With exquisite bent grass fairways and quick, testy greens, this county-run course could pass for one of the nearby posh private clubs. These rolling fairways are on the narrow side, and water hazards are in play but less often than the bunkers surrounding these severely sloping greens. Played Howell on Friday Sept 30. It has been 15 years since I last played there but remembered it as a great course. Other than a few bare spots on a few fairways and an obvious problem with the 17th green, the course was fabulous - I love Hominy but prefer Howell's layout and overall character.

Can be soggy after heavy rain, but condition is generally first-rate, especially for a public course. With ten-minute tee time intervals, never feels crowded.
