The Buzz -- As much a Thanksgiving tradition as turkey and football, this parade marks the unofficial beginning of the holiday season, mainly because Santa closes the parade every year (and not necessarily because it's hosted by a department store). In 2009, the parade makes a change in route, ensuring plenty of viewing areas along the way to allow folks to catch sight of giant balloons like Kermit and Snoopy and to marvel at the always-amazing floats. With the new path, the parade travels from 77th and Central Park West to Columbus Circle. It then takes Central Park South to 7th Avenue, marching down 7th to 42nd Street. At 42nd, the parade shifts east to 6th Avenue, travels down 6th to 34th Street, and turns west on 34th, ending at Macy's Herald Square. |
