MEATPACKING DISTRICT. Whether you plan to club or dine, reservations are needed at the Meatpacking District's bastion of cool, where the edgy, ultra-mod design would have impressed even Kubrick. The three-level layout features a dining room, lounge areas and a dance floor, ensuring that Lotus doesn't get pigeon-holed as only one type of scene. Per the name, Asian influences make their way into both the atmosphere and the fare, the latter vis-à-vis a number of tasty Thai and Vietnamese creations. TRAIN: A, C, E, L to 14th St-8th Ave

MEATPACKING DISTRICT. One of the city's top clubs regardless of who's keeping score, the place "where house music lives" is indeed a primo spot to be in the Meatpacking District once the midnight hours roll in. The music – an innovative, global montage of everything from Afro-Latin and soul to techno and nu jazz – is a big draw, of course. The scene (sexy decor, a sunken dance floor, and cozy brown and beige banquettes) generates a fair amount of its own buzz... as does the beautiful, 20-something clientele. CHELSEA. "Exclusive" barely hints at what this chic ultra-lounge is all about. Sleek yet classy, refined yet sexy, Marquee's evocative layout is truly a piece of art unto itself: vaulted ceilings, a "wishbone" staircase that leads to the VIP area upstairs, pendant fixtures, a grand "disco" chandelier, and a dance floor flanked by comfortable banquettes. Gaining admittance can be quite a feat on certain nights, so be sure to dress your best and bring along a few pretty faces. TRAIN: C, E to 23rd St

SOHO. This smart looking dance hall, named after William Burroughs's famous book, is a good place to spot the occasional celeb. Conspicuously located on the corner of Thompson and Grand, the Naked Lunch is one of SoHo's favorite places to do the salsa, and dance to great 80s tunes on the weekends. After work, it's not uncommon to see a few business types here, waiting for the party to start and tossing back a cold brew. If you don't mind gawkers, you're welcome to start shaking your booty early. TRAIN: 1, 9, A, C, E to Canal St

THEATRE DISTRICT. Beautiful people mingle, order expensive drinks and dance among hundreds of others in this hip club. Music spun by a DJ throbs wildly as patrons strain to hear each other. A happening place to watch people and have a great time. Among the famous seen here are Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, Michael Bolton, Stevie Wonder and David Bowie. There's also top floor indoor-outdoor terrace, which accommodates 500 people. On-site ATM. TRAIN: C, E to 50th St

LOWER EAST SIDE. If you're a fan of Warhol, this spot on the Lower East Side is a must. Indeed, the foil-covered walls, a freight elevator entrance and scores of beautiful patrons do their best to recall the heyday of the legendary Factory. Adding to the place's kitsch quality are their potent potables, most of which are named after streets on the LES. As for dancing, if you're so inclined – And at this hour, who isn't? – just head downstairs, where the talented DJs work the late night crowd into a frenzy with their awesome mix of disco and house beats. BROOKLYN. Situated in Bay Ridge between 4th and 5th Avenues, the ultra-flashy Legacy Nite Club is one of South Brooklyn's premier dance clubs. Like a set from "Saturday Night Fever," this historic nightspot, which dates from the 1950s, offers it's well-dressed patrons the chance to boogie on a sunken dance floor under the irradiant rays of disco balls and strobe lights. The Legacy's professional DJ, Tito Ramirez, spins the best dance music around, ranging from 70s disco to modern R & B and hip-hop. Valet parking is available. TRAIN: N, R to 86th St

SOHO. This Latin American dance club, whose abbreviation stands for Sounds of Brazil, is located just on the fringe of SoHo and the West Village. A popular place to shake your money maker, S.O.B.'s is also a good place to hear great live music ranging from reggae and Afropop to samba and Latin R & B. Recent acts have included Brand Nubian, Erykah Badu, and Blackalicious. Patrons love to spend all night here, and who could blame them? The tasty island drinks, the beautiful scenery and the great music make this place hard to leave – even if it is early in the morning! Closing hours vary. TRAIN: 1, 9 to Houston St
