LOWER EAST SIDE.   This East Houston gem enjoys a fine reputation as one of the Lower East Side's best delis – perhaps this is because it's so close to Little Italy! Remember the famous "Yes, yes, yes!" scene from "When Harry Met Sally?" If so, you'll recognize Katz's Deli, a Manhattan mainstay since before World War II. This is one of the very few delis that still carves corned beef and pastrami by hand. Overlook the décor, ignore the brash waitstaff, and concentrate on the best deli sandwich you've ever eaten. $20 minimum on credit card purchases. TRAIN: F to 2nd Ave   (© 10Best)

The best
The best pastrami sandwich period! Have had them all......Stage, Carnegie, etc and none match the flavor of Katz'. Atmosphere is awesome. If your looking for great sit down waiter service, probably not the best place. Step up in line and watch the meat carvers masterfully prepare best deli sandwich in town. Matzoh Ball soup was excellent as well

The reviews rave and rave but I was not impressed. Great corn beef on a dry seedless rye out of a bag (obviously for some time) Come on....a sandwich is BREAD and meat. What happened to the great crusty jewish rye. At 15.00 a pop for the sandwich they can afford to spend a buck on good bread. My wife's should have been grilled but was not and she had to eat it with a fork because the DRY BREAD fell apart. $53.00 2 sandwiches, just ok chicken soup, and two drinks. ONE STAR The waitress was nice other than that the pictures loose their glitz real quick when the meal is sub-standard.

Haute cuisine it's not, but its tasty and you certainly won't go hungry. Atmosphere is great - Very NY!! Went there after Kenny Shopsin round the corner refused to feed us - he takes this reputation for hurling abuse much too far!!
