GARMENT DISTRICT.   Don't let the subdued if unimpressive décor fool you, this is one of the top Italian eateries around. Located at the crossing of Eighth Street and Seventh Avenue, Biricchino specializes in homemade Northern Italian entrées that include everything from smoked meat and pasta dishes to rarities like rabbit and swordfish. Of course, the specialty dishes here include NY's own Salumeria Billese sausage (hey, they share the same owners!), which is featured in the popular mixed-sausage appetizer – a must for first-timers.
