CHELSEA. Jerk chicken is served, of course, but Maroons also ventures into authentic Jamaican in its Bossie's Curry Goat, served with white rice and succotash, and its Ms. Winnies' Jamaican Spicy Fried Fish, served with white rice and callalo. Save room for dessert because the selection includes hot bread pudding with vanilla rum puree, applesauce carrot cake, sweet potato pie, apple pie, pecan pie and many more! BROOKLYN. Looking for an old school setting where you can devour a mammoth porterhouse and munch on fried potatoes? This two-story, time-honored steak place is perfect for you. Remember not to ask for a menu, as menus are reserved for only tourists of the most naive kind. Luger's makes it simple by serving only one cut, the porterhouse, but they do that one cut extremely well! The gift shop offers Luger's popular sauce and souvenirs. TRAIN: J, M, Z to Marcy Ave

MIDTOWN EAST. The meat and vegetable dishes that come from chef Hemant Mathur's clay oven are popular with authentic Indian food lovers. The savory curried items keep diners returning, and the flat breads are just as good. Try the tasting menu ($50) or order an à la carte item, perhaps the Classic Seekh Kebabs (minced lamb kebabs) or the Malai Kebab (creamy chicken kebabs). The laid-back, intimate dining area accentuates the food and makes this a great dining choice. Reservations accepted, dress is smart casual. TRAIN: 4, 5 to 51st St; A, C, E to Lexington Ave

STATEN ISLAND. This family-owned (since 1937!) pizzeria is definitely worth the trip to Staten Island – the pies are delicious and the atmosphere is homey. If you want pizza that's a little different from the norm, try the garlicky white pizza. If you go on a Friday or Saturday night, be prepared to wait a while for a table – but don't let that deter you. You can comfortably pass the time with the locals in the bar and nurse a nice, cold pitcher of beer or a cocktail. TRAVEL: Staten Island Ferry, then 44 bus to Hooker Pl

BROOKLYN. Famous for its delicious, coal-oven baked pizza and old-timey jukebox, this charming little pizzeria is tucked away under the Brooklyn Bridge. They use only the freshest of ingredients, including fresh mozzarella made on the premises. Grimaldi's consistently wins "Best of..." awards, and is the definite favorite of locals. It may be a little out of the way, and you may have to wait for a table on weekends, but you'll find this eatery to be well worth the visit. No slices, whole pies only! TRAIN: A, C to High Street.
