10Best Events Guide

New York Event Guide

July 22 - August 17, 2008
HAIR – Shakespeare in Central Park

One of the best opportunities to see a stage show in New York and it is absolutely free. The Public Theater has staged Shakespeare and other theatrical productions since 1962 and luminaries Walken, Washington, Streep and Freeman have strutted and fretted their hour on that stage. HAIR is a bit of a departure from the bard, but not the Public Theater where it made its off-Broadway debut in 1967. Filled with dance and the rousing anthems of Vietnam War protests, the perennially popular musical is startlingly relevant today.

About New York

If you are walking down a street and you can spot a fashion model checking her reflection in the window of an haute boutique, a gentleman selling designer watches out of a briefcase, a college kid dressed in a chicken suit handing out flyers for promotional pricing on rotisserie poultry, a cab driver leaning out the window and exhaling a stream of expletives at the mail truck abruptly double-parked in the turn lane, all within the throng of office denizens that shuffle along carrying on cell...
