The Paterson Museum displays a collection of photographs and artifacts documenting the history of the textile and locomotive-building industries which once dominated the region, and the role Paterson played in firearms enterprise of Samuel Colt. There are two experimental submarines (built in 1878 and 1881 by John Philip Holland – the father of submersibles) at the museum and a 1906 locomotive that was used in building the Panama Canal. There is also a pharmacy area that highlights the patent medicines of the 1920s.
