IRONBOUND.   This attractive restaurant, whose interior features stone fireplaces and archways, wrought iron gates, and walls painted in earthy yellows, is one of the best reasons to venture out to Ironbound. Fabulous Portuguese and Spanish cuisine and wine are the restaurant's specialties (its name, after all, is Portuguese for "wine cellar"), and most of the top dishes focus on fresh fish, seafood or organic meats. The retro-inspired lounge area, meanwhile, is a cool place to hang out, enjoy drinks and make a little conversation.   (© 10Best)

Food is good but not anything to rave about. The service behind the bar is what I think attracts many people. Its helps to have good looking barmaids. Is this a bar-restaurant or a club. I'm confused. Too crowded and noisy. Okay, the food is good.

The host was very nice. The service was pleasant. Appetizers are typical in size and price. Entrees are quite large and can be split by two. Desserts are low quality, like you might find in a franchise. The atmosphere is very nice. Plush seating, including incredible ornate medieval type chairs fit for a king or queen at some of the smaller tables. The restaurant is on the loud side, with the main dining area being very narrow, so there is a constant flow of people passing by, waiters, people being seated. Nonetheless it is charming. If you prefer a little more, but not much, privacy, ask to be seated in the room toward the back of the restaurant. As for the food. It is good, but it is a little over-priced for what it is; there are numerous restaurants in the same area with as good or better food, and at a lower price. Portions were: average size for appetizers, very large for entrees, and very small for desserts. We had a party of eight and split 6 appetizers and 6 entrees and everyone ate enough. As mentioned above, the desserts were very disappointing. Unusually small and very bland. What's on the dessert menu sounds great; what comes to the table is small and just not good at all. Also, while the service was prompt and polite, the desserts were brought out and we then waited for the coffee, which arrived about 20 minutes later (ordered at the same time). The sangrias are both good. There is an attached lounge so you can club right after dinner and enter from the grill, rather than go outside and get in line.

Excellent restaurant. Top choice in my opinion when visiting newark. Great food at a great price. Visited location for various events, including 40th birthday party celebration. Service and food A+++
