IRONBOUND.
One of Newark's more established and well-respected Italian restaurants, Assaggini is proverbably packed at lunch and dinner, a testament no doubt to the kitchen crew's knack for delivering topnotch seafood and pasta dishes. A certain old school sensibility engulfs the place, from the choice of music down to the friendliness of the staff, and patrons can always count on having a memorable visit. NB Assaggini Di Roma is a very popular lunch spot for lawyers and business types.

I enjoy the Assaggini experience once i a while. The food is good. The atmosphere is good. If you like the Soprano's, you'll enjoy Assaggini. You'll feel like Big Tony when you're there. My favorite: Veal Soprano with a bottle of house wine. Their pasta dishes are very good too.

Having eaten here regularly over many years, I find the level of service and quality of food to be consistently excellent. With a friendly bar up front and dining in the rear with the rooms separated so the two don't interfere with each other, this place has become our Italian Dining favorite. The menu reflects the standard Italian dining fare and once you enter the dining room, your senses will be rewarded with the aroma of that Italian influenced menu, but also includes dishes for any palate or desire. As our one friend has discovered, even finicky eaters can get just about anything they wish, prepared to meet their special needs or requests.
Regardless of budget or that wine-snob you know, the wine list has something for everyone too. (We just found out they an entire 2nd floor dedicated to large parties or catered events too) Thursday has become a popular night over the last several years, and Friday you may need a reservation as there's live, enjoyable entertainment, which doesn't over-power the room like so many other small, intimate restaurants that try to be dinner-clubs. For consistently great meals with hearty portions and prompt, courteous service - you just might make it your favorite Italian dinning establishment too.
