This home's most illustrious owner was Samuel F.B. Morse who changed the history of communication with his electromagnetic telegraph. He took residence in 1847 and proceeded to remodel the existing structure into an Italianate villa with the design of Alexander Jackson Davis. He also added to the extensive landscaping to reflect his love of romantic 19th-century horticulture. A kitchen garden with heritage vegetables has provided fresh produce and herbs for over 200 years.
