EDITOR REVIEW: Sailing each weekend from May through October, Hudson River Adventures offers two excursions to Pollepel Island which was believed by the Native Americans to be haunted. One tour allows passengers to disembark and don hard hats to walk around the ruin of the castle that was originally constructed at the turn of the 20th century for the Bannerman family's growing military surplus business. The exterior walls of the structure served as billboards advertising the Bannerman retail store to boats passing down the river. Today the interior of the castle is not open to the public, and the only way to get up close is to take this tour. (Please note: Tour requires the climbing of 70+ stairs.) |
