So named for the slumbering ursine appearance of rounded edges of the mountain, the park encompasses acres of rolling land overlooking Hessian Lake. The first section of the Appalachian Trial was created here in 1923, taking hikers south to the Delaware Water Gap. Now the park draws thousands of visitors each year to hike, boat, picnic, swim, cross-country ski, sled and ice skate. A zoo and trailside museum, along with an old-time carousel featuring figures of idigenous animals make this an outing particularly well-suited for families.
