GATESHEAD. This excellent provincial art gallery is located about 15 minutes outside of Newcastle upon Tyne. Various permanent exhibitions found here include the "Made in Gateshead" showcase, which illustrates many aspects of the industrial history of the town, and a collection of paintings by several masters. The Contemporary Craft Gallery displays various mediums, including glass, metalwork, and ceramics. Several exhibitions and numerous special programs are also housed here.
