The oldest English-speaking parish in the US, St. John's was founded in 1610. The current site (actually the parish's fourth) and the present building, with its attractive Colonial brickwork, dates from 1728. Inside you can see a stained glass window depicting the baptism of Pocahontas, donated to the church in 1887. Visitors may also like to visit the carefully excavated second parish site on the Hampton University campus; the third site (West Pembroke Avenue east of LaSalle) retains a number of grave markers and brick outlines of the foundation.
