NEWPORT NEWS.   Located in the Oyster Point business area, Manhattan's New York Deli attracts a big lunch crowd, most of whom enjoy the huge sandwiches and marvelous burgers. Also on the menu are the popular new "wraps" – and those are NY-style, which means plenty of stuffing! The soups are good here, too. For a NY-style place, the atmosphere is surprisingly serene.   (© 10Best)

Hate drunk driving? Don't come here!
I grew up in NN and was there Saturday night for a bridal shower and bachelorette party. Saturday night, we got nicely dressed and went out for a night on the town. Our party of 4 adult women arrived at Manhattan's around midnight, and were not allowed in because....get this....we arrived in a cab! Apparently, Hampton Roads has gotten so ghetto, that arriving to a bar in a cab means you're too intoxicated to go inside. When we asked to speak with a manager, the bouncer wouldn't even hear it. When I was able to speak with a manager by calling on my cell phone, she was rude, argumentative, and accusatory. I have had my share of big nights out, and Saturday was not one of them. This was about as tame a bachelorette party as one could have, and we were shocked we weren't let in, especially since we saw about 5 other people on the patio who were far more intoxicated then we were accused of being. Lesson: avoid Manhattan's if you're safety conscious and an adult. We've promised my friend a re-do party to make it up to her, in DC where taking a cab is considered intelligent, the bars are better, and adult women are welcome.
