This restaurant represents family and homestyle cooking. Having originally opened it's doors in 1953, it now stands as a landmark amongst Newport News restaurants. Known for it's North Carolina style barbeque, it excels in down home southern dishes and vegetables, such as chicken and dumplings, hushpuppies, meatloaf and fried and barbeque chicken. The selection of home cooked vegetables exceeds the imagination, and includes collards, rutabagas, green beans, lima beans, baked, beans, macaroni and cheese, cabbage, mashed potatoes, potato salad, coleslaw, and their signature sweet potato casserole. The homemade desserts are wonderful and features their signature banana pudding, coconut pie and chocolate pie. If you're lucky, your visit will be on a day when the owner has made a special dessert, such as sweet potato pie or pumpkin pie.
Service is fast and friendly. This restaurant is a "must visit" for those who enjoy down home cooking and desserts.
