1. Fort Norfolk

Fort Norfolk played important roles in both the War of 1812 and Civil War. This historic Norfolk attraction is the last of 19 harbor-front forts commissioned by President Washington in 1794, and many of her original buildings remain standing. When visiting Fort Norfolk, be sure to note the role it played during the Battle of the Monitor and Merrimac in 1862.   (© 10Best)
