1. Caves of Nottingham

Below the modern Broadmarsh Centre, you'll find this unique maze-like network of caves that were carved into the sandstone by hand over the past centuries. In medieval times, Nottingham residents lived and worked in the caves or used them for storage. Visitors can don a hard hat and take a self-guided tour through the caves, using a headset to listen to the history of the area. There are more manmade caves here than anywhere else in the United Kingdom, making this a unique and interesting attraction.   (© 10Best)
