This must-see pub was founded in 1240 and is embroiled in an ongoing argument with Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem over which pub is the oldest. This is an evocative place to experience local history, with its medieval exterior and sign depicting the Archangel Gabriel saluting the Virgin Mary, which is where the pub got its name. Inside, it's all dark wood, stone walls, and old pictures. Settle in among the mishmash of old tables and have a real house ale brewed in a cave beneath the pub.
