9. Spirit of Freedom 9-11 Memorial

To memorialize Americans who were killed in the September 11, 2001 attacks on New York City and Washington, DC, O'Fallon erected this inspiring public art project in 2003. The twisted metal and steel piece was dedicated on the second anniversary of the attacks. The 13-ton monument is a poignant reminder of lives lost, the first responders on the scene, and the rallying together of communities following the worst attack on American soil in the country's history.   (© 10Best)
