- The area of O'Fallon was first settled in the 1830s by colonists of German descent. The history of the city dates to the mid-19th century when politician Arnold Krekel granted a railroad permission to build a depot in the town. The depot was named O'Fallon Station, for the railroad's then-president.
- O'Fallon experienced a massive population growth at the end of the 20th century with the population reaching 70,000 in 2006. The growth is attributed to the town's proximity to St. Louis and several corporate interests opening company offices in the region.
- O'Fallon is home to MasterCard's headquarters for Global Technology and Operations center, where MasterCard's credit-card transactions from around the world are settled. The opening of the headquarters led to rapid growth and expansion for the area.
- Education is an important part of the O'Fallon culture. The city is home to satellite campuses of Webster University and Lindenwood University. Webster has numerous campuses in metropolitan areas. U.S. News and World Report consistently ranks Webster in the top level of Midwestern universities among its peers.
- The planned community of WingHaven was the innovation of developers who wanted a return to a traditional-style planned community but with the latest in technological amenities. The 1200-acre development in O'Fallon includes residential, commercial, educational and social opportunities for residents.
- O'Fallon residents celebrated their sesquicentennial in 2006 with events and celebrations around the region. The 150th anniversary celebration was attended by residents as well as state and local leaders.
- The Renaud Spirit Center is a 66,000-square-foot sports and entertainment complex located in O'Fallon Sports Park. The Center hosts arts and crafts exhibitions, fairs and local events as well as sports and fitness programs and swimmers at its natatorium.
- The River City Rascals are a minor league baseball team and member of the Frontier League. The team was relocated to O'Fallon in 1999. Residents dash to their local stadium to cheer on their minor league sports team and its players, several of whom have made it to the majors.
- O'Fallon's weather runs the gamut from sweltering summers to frosty winters and travelers will want to plan accordingly. The warmest months are June, July and August, when highs can reach the mid to high 80s, and lows are in the 60s. During the winter, average lows can dip into the high teens and low 20s with highs peaking in the high 30s to low 40s.
