5. Horse & Hounds Restaurant

My wife and I dined at Horse & Hounds on Highway 27 in Ocala on Sept. 21. It is a rustic place with very old furnishings. I had one of their martinis and it was almost all vermouth - very weak. My wife and I both had their specialty pecan crusted grouper. The portion was large but the fish was heavily breaded and deep fried and had a strong "fishy taste and oder. It was way over-cooked and dry.The baked potatoes were obviously left-overs from a previous day, but the vegetable medley was quite good. This restaurant is way over-priced. The drinks are very weak and the food left a lot to be desired. The server was very friendly and prompy. She explained that they were hurting for business because of the economy. Perhaps that is why we thought the food was not fresh. We will not dine at this restaurant again.

H&H is a true classic. A very relaxing atmosphere with superb food and service. The pecan crusted grouper is one of the finest fish dishes I have enjoyed anywhere. Whenever I find myself in central Florida, I dine at Horse & Hounds! M.Lane mlanesepic.blogspot.com
