OCALA. Masterfully crafted Indian food anchors the strong reputation of this much-loved restaurant. Since 1996, Amrit Palace has been a source of culinary pleasure for inductees into the delights of nan, tandoori chicken and samosas. The scents alone are enough to let you know something terrific's in store, and once lamb curry and shrimp masala are delivered to your table, the promise is confirmed. Portions are generous, vegetarians are easily accommodated, and set, multi-course meals please diners who like to sample lots of dishes.

OCALA. Sleek, soothing Ayuttaya envelops diners with rich wood tones, calming colors, and a wash of atmospheric lighting. It's the sort of place where you can impress clients or just bring the family for a well-prepared meal. Sample a classic like green curry or pad Thai, or venture into the specialties, which include whole red snapper, twice-cooked duck and soft-shell crabs. Vegetarian and noodle dishes satisfy more health-conscious diners, and you can even build an entire meal from the broad selection of appetizers.

OCALA. At H&H, equestrian prints and memorabilia pay homage to Ocala's training and breeding expertise. However, the accomplished cuisine quickly becomes the topic of conversation once diners dig into the menu offerings. Certified Angus beef is a perennial favorite, and pecan-crusted grouper is an award-winning must. Other upscale options include rack of lamb, trout almondine and even game dishes of venison and pheasant. Great wines and homemade desserts heighten the experience, and early-bird dinners are a great bargain before 6pm.

OCALA. The fanciful premise to this restaurant is that Huck Finn inherited an island from his grandfather and ended up living there with Tom Sawyer and a crew of Caribbean cooks. Although the story may be far-fetched, the menu is solid, especially when it comes to seafood. Try flame-grilled grouper, fried catfish or shrimp creole. Other temptations include a rib-eye, coconut curry chicken, and beef or chicken kabobs. The relaxed place doesn't stand on formalities, but that's just the way Huck would have it!

OCALA. Adorned with Thai textiles and artifacts, this appealing restaurant brings a taste of Asian authenticity to northern Florida. The cuisine is a revelation, boasting subtle flavors and accomplished technique. Options are myriad in every section of the menu, from chicken to seafood to vegetables. The exotic specialties, however, are the real treat. Two Friends Panang marries chicken, prawns and asparagus in a light curry sauce, and roast duck is prepared several different ways. Macrobiotic dishes are even available.

OCALA. Eminently accommodating, Tony's not only serves terrific food but treats customers incredibly well. As a result, folks return again and again for the pleasure of the experience. Five sushi chefs turn out a host of imaginative rolls, and they'll even take requests for items not on the regular menu. If you're not up for sushi, teppanyaki chefs prepare cooked items on a grill at your table, and noodle dishes, tempura selections and bento boxes are available. Always comfortable and fun.
