This is the only state capitol in the country with a working oil well on its grounds. History and architecture buffs will enjoy this interesting building. Guided tours by a friendly staff are offered each hour between 9am and 4pm.   (© 10Best)

When you first walk into the rotunda of the Oklahoma State Capitol, you're almost guaranteed to see several visitors with heads flopped back, staring straight up at the ceiling. They can't help it. The beauty and grandeur of the Oklahoma City statehouse's new dome all but forces them to lift their gazes. The Greco-Roman-style capitol stood without a dome for 85 years before the new structure was dedicated in November 2002. The hemispheric marvel is not the only reason to tour the capitol. The building is decorated with many works of art curated and installed by the Oklahoma Arts Council. Your best bet is to schedule a tour, but if you're pressed for time, grab a self-guided brochure.
