OLD MARKET. Lunch at Austin's is fun, informal, and filling. The menu features Southwest Texas cuisine served in a barn-like setting. The walls are lined with western memorabilia and lots of neon, and the noisy crowds are part of the charm. Entrées include classics like chicken fried chicken (smothered in gravy), Panhandle fried catfish, Porterhouse steaks, and barbecue ribs. If you crave something lighter, ask for salad or soup. Because of its popularity, Austin's Steakhouse can be loud, but the meal is well worth it.

OLD MARKET. This restaurant offers delicious, spicy Creole cooking in an authentic New Orleans French Quarter setting right in the middle of downtown Omaha. A meal at Butsy Le Doux's is tantalizing. With menu choices like Voodoo Stew, jambalaya, and Cajun burgers, be sure to order water because the cuisine is hot, Hot, HOT! The decor features exposed brick floors, high ceilings, and wood tables with Mardi Gras accents. A bonus is the live blues and jazz band that plays regularly.

OLD MARKET. Fine French-inspired food and a wine bar/gourmet grocery store add to this restaurant's success. La Buvette is extremely popular, trendy, and upscale. The decor includes walls of wine bottles, and the eatery even has outdoor seating when weather permits. The cuisine is inventive, and the menu changes regularly. The chef offers a variety of special theme nights, like duck night, which has become a local favorite. The ambience is quite European, and there is even a small grocery area in the back. An excellent choice to catch a bite or buy the items you may need for an impromptu picnic. Business casual attire.

Spaghetti Works features family-style cooking and serves up some of the city's best quick Italian cuisine. The menu features pastas, manicotti, ravioli, and the ever-popular spaghetti entrée. Diners can enjoy their meal in one of several eating areas, which range from booths to an actual railroad dining car. This is fun for the entire family, and prices are quite affordable.

OLD MARKET. This Mexican cuisine restaurant may create an intimate ambience (there are candle-lit tables and low lighting), but its hearty and filling cuisine is what keeps locals and tourists coming back. Trini's serves favorites like tacos, enchiladas, and burritos as well as a number of appetizers and desserts. Soups are a great starter here and include classics like menudo and caldo xochitl. There are also vegetarian choices available. The restaurant has margarita specials on Tuesdays and Thursdays as well. Prices are relatively inexpensive, and the staff is very friendly.

OLD MARKET. This large brewpub is upscale, very popular, and makes a great lunch stop. Although there may be a wait for a table, Upstream Brewing Company is huge so the wait is usually short. The menu is American, and the ambience is casual. Portions are big, so bring your appetite. Entrées include charbroiled chicken, burgers, and a tasty beer-braised pot roast. The restaurant has a bar area, upstairs poolroom, and is known for its homemade beers that range from light ales to dark brews.

PACIFIC PLACE. This large bakery/restaurant has some of the freshest food around. When you walk into Wheatfields, the first thing you see is the bakery and its display of cakes, pies, cookies, and desserts, which can be deliciously overwhelming. But it's the dining room that makes this a great choice for lunch. The house specialty is casseroles, and choices include the Düsseldorf (sausage, bacon, potatoes, and spring onions) and filet mignon combinations. The menu changes daily so ask the server for specials. Plus, save room for dessert because that's another Wheatfields trademark.
