OLD MARKET. An open downtown warehouse serves as the city's artists' co-op. This non-profit gallery strives to educate Omaha residents about art and also serves as a display area for local and area talent. Art media for sale range from glassworks, oils, and watercolors to iron and bronze pieces. Artwork runs the gamut from modern and contemporary pieces to impressionists and abstract work. Plus, there are a variety of eclectic pieces.

DOWNTOWN. Some of the best nature photography by acclaimed photographer Thomas D. Mangelsen can be found at Images of Nature. The gallery is dedicated to capturing unique representations of nature, and Mangelsen, who has spent more than 25 years documenting wildlife via print photography, is an award-winning artist. Prints on display range from polar bears, elephants, and seals to lush and wild landscapes from around the globe. The gallery is a bit upscale, but there are a number of prints at affordable prices.

OLD MARKET. This artists' co-op features works by more than 20 local and regional artisans. The Passageway Gallery features painting in oil and watercolor as well as pottery, glass, and ceramics. A highlight includes a number of pieces that reflect the beauty of the Nebraska Great Plains. The gallery is housed in one spacious room where pieces are displayed from wall to ceiling. Most items are quite affordable, and there are even a few eclectic and cutting edge pieces from which to choose.

OLD MARKET. From folk art to hand-blown glass pieces, this Omaha gallery showcases a variety of handmade American works. The White Crane Gallery features paintings, ceramics, jewelry, and odds and ends. Although a little upscale, the ambience is casual, and the staff is friendly. The gallery is located in the Passageway off of Howard Street.
