The history of Omaha is unveiled in the Art Deco beauty of this 1930s train station. The Durham Western Heritage Museum features a number of exhibits, like the Byron Reed Coin collection, as well as hands-on exhibits. Features include sitting in actual Pullman train cars and walking through the Trans-Mississippi Gallery, which features a replica of the 1898 Exposition "Arch of the States" entry gate. Because the museum is housed in galleries throughout the Omaha Union Station, visitors also see the elaborate architectural beauty, which includes the bronze and copper accents that still decorate the now defunct train station.

Two hangers house the metal strength, like that of a Boeing B-52B Heavy Bomber, which empowered the military's Strategic Air Command. This museum honors the men and women who have flown to protect the United States. Visitors are not allowed inside the decommissioned planes, but their mere presence and size are overwhelming. The SAC Museum also features various displayed artifacts and an interactive gallery. A bonus includes seeing the Apollo 9 Command Space Module and the Vela Satellite, both of which sit inside the hangers.
If you're a history buff, art aficionado, archaeology fiend, or dabbler in the sciences, our museum picks are perfect for a rainy day or afternoon excursion!
