Tempting the adventurous palette with innovative creative cuisine seems to be the driving force behind this eclectic Omaha restaurant. Jams features a mixture of food favorites from many different cultures. Whether it's Asian or Southwestern, Californian or new Italian, chef and co-owner Mark Hoch keeps diners thrilled. The menu is inventive, changes seasonally, and even includes a range of sandwiches and appetizers.

DOWNTOWN. This simple modern coffee house has a comfortable, casual ambience. There is upstairs and downstairs seating, and customers can enjoy an affordable cup of Joe while admiring the local artwork hanging from the walls. The 13th Street Coffee Company, which attracts a 20- to 30-something crowd, serves an array of drinks, from espressos to cappuccinos, and offers a variety of sandwiches and desserts as well. The shop also features occasional live music on Fridays.

OLD MARKET. This large brewpub is upscale, very popular, and makes a great lunch stop. Although there may be a wait for a table, Upstream Brewing Company is huge so the wait is usually short. The menu is American, and the ambience is casual. Portions are big, so bring your appetite. Entrées include charbroiled chicken, burgers, and a tasty beer-braised pot roast. The restaurant has a bar area, upstairs poolroom, and is known for its homemade beers that range from light ales to dark brews.

OLD MARKET. With its Passageway location, outdoor seating at this fine dining establishment is a sure thing. V Mertz's offers an intimate and romantic ambience. The restaurant's outside seating includes the Passageway's brick walls and area fountain, while the indoor dining room is très chic. The decor includes white tablecloths, white covered chairs, and low lighting. The menu, which changes weekly, is American with innovative culinary influences from a range of cuisine types.

OLD MARKET. Turn of the century antiques and collectibles accentuate the decor at this local eatery. Spaghetti Works features family-style cooking and serves up some of the city's best quick Italian cuisine. The menu features pastas, manicotti, ravioli, and the ever-popular spaghetti entrée. Diners can enjoy their meal in one of several eating areas, which range from booths to an actual railroad dining car. This is fun for the entire family, and prices are quite affordable.

OLD MARKET. This restaurant offers delicious, spicy Creole cooking in an authentic New Orleans French Quarter setting right in the middle of downtown Omaha. A meal at Butsy Le Doux's is tantalizing. With menu choices like Voodoo Stew, jambalaya, and Cajun burgers, be sure to order water because the food is HOT! The decor features exposed brick floors, high ceilings, and wood tables with Mardi Gras accents. A bonus is the live blues and jazz band that plays regularly.

OLD MARKET. This Mexican restaurant may create an intimate ambience (there are candle-lit tables and low lighting), but its hearty and filling cuisine is what keeps locals and tourists coming back. Trini's serves favorites like tacos, enchiladas, and burritos as well as a number of appetizers and desserts. Soups are a great starter here and include classics like menudo and caldo xochitl. There are also vegetarian choices available. The restaurant has margarita specials on Tuesdays and Thursdays as well.

OLD MARKET. Fine French-inspired food and a wine bar/gourmet grocery store add to this restaurant's success. La Buvette is extremely popular, trendy, and upscale. The decor includes walls of wine bottles, and the eatery even has outdoor seating when weather permits. The cuisine is inventive, and the menu changes regularly. The chef offers a variety of special theme nights, like duck night, which has become a local favorite. The ambience is quite European, and there is even a small grocery area in the back. An excellent choice to catch a bite or buy the items you may need for an impromptu picnic.

OLD MARKET. With a casually elegant setting and a terrific downtown location, this exotic eatery offers great Indian cuisine. The Indian Oven restaurant has a diverse menu that includes spicy satays, chicken tikke makhami, and a variety of meat dishes made with beef, lamb, and seafood. Maghlai and tandor specialties as well as vegetarian choices are also available. The decor is authentic and features Indian artifacts, paintings, and music in the background.

OLD MARKET. With flavorful, inexpensive food and great margaritas, this casual Mexican restaurant is a must. Julio's is located next to the Omaha History Center and provides an intimate ambience accented with neon lights, Tex-Mex accents, and tiered tables and booths. The food is filling and includes fajitas, burritos, enchiladas, and even the classic burger for those wanting something less adventurous. And if there's a Nebraska ball game to be seen, the owners are fans and will have it on in the bar television.
