Santa Ana's charming zoo began in 1949 with a wealthy entrepreneur's donation of land for a park and the requirement that 50 monkeys be kept on the premises henceforth. This generous, if somewhat unusual, gift evolved into a facility that now includes elephants, two aviaries, a farm, and a children's zoo – along with the aforementioned primates, of course. Among the other creatures that folks can expect to encounter are sloths, wallabies, porcupines, pigs, sheep, goats, rabbits, snakes, emus, and many other domestic and foreign birds and animals.
