BREA. In the market for upscale but accessible swank? You'll find it in full force at Bar 330, Brea's classy hangout for everything from dancing to watching sports on the telly. The place is sleek and big-city in style, and a nicely diverse crowd comes regularly to nurse martinis, play a few rounds of pool, groove to whatever the DJs are playing, and meet up with other cool folks from around the county. Themed club nights are also part of the mix, and you're even likely to spot a celebrity or two kicking around from time to time.

COSTA MESA. A trendy gathering spot for OC club-goers, Club Vegas takes seriously its name, creating a Strip-worthy venue that brings together beautiful people, top DJs, and lots of dancing action. Catch different music in the main area and a separate lounge, but count on everything from trance and hip-hop to old-school and Top 40. The club can hold nearly 1000, so you'll have to dress your best to stand out in the crowd. If you want to make it a night to remember, reserve the VIP lounge; otherwise, just throw yourself into the mix and live it up!

IRVINE. This temple to all things sports provides a cool, sophisticated place for watching athletic competitions on the tube. The establishment walks a fine line between being a sports bar and a trendy gathering spot, thanks to its open design, central curvilinear bar, and comfortable leather seats. The kitchen prepares an outstanding selection of pizzas, burgers, ribs, pastas, and steaks, which are fantastic accompaniments to straight-on views of crystal-clear plasma screen TVs tuned to the action du jour.

LAGUNA BEACH. A favorite with Laguna Beach's fashionable set thanks to its contemporary atmosphere and some of Orange County's best eye candy, this trendy dance club and sushi joint makes a larger-than-life impression. Sleek Asian decor, evocative lighting, and pulsating dance beats set the stage for an evening of high-octane sophistication. On weekends, the action becomes even more heated, as everything reaches a fun and frenzied fever pitch. Even better, you'll pay no cover if you spend a certain amount in the restaurant beforehand.

COSTA MESA. An open, industrial space juxtaposed with ornate accents and furnishings sets the stage for this busy club. Its centerpiece is a hefty shark tank, whose toothy denizens oversee billiards action and socializing. Dance floors bring patrons together with hip-hop, trance, and more, and they feature a complimentary buffet. If you're not in the mood to break balls or boogie, hang out at the impressive bar, or gather around a glowing fireplace to either chat up new folks or catch up with friends. A broad menu is available, along with private rooms.

NEWPORT BEACH. A sleek, urban refuge from the day-to-day world is what Tentation promises. With its onyx-faced bar, indoor waterfall, mood-setting lighting, plasma TVs, and low-slung furniture, the place considers itself a slice of transported SoBe cool. The characterization is largely apt, and even an outdoor patio with seductive gazebos makes the case for Florida cachet. DJs and live performers bring the place alive, and you'll always find a good scene on the dance floor. Drinks are stiff, with prices to match.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO. It's been around a long time, but that only means that Coach House has earned its reputation as a top-rated place to catch local bands and touring performers. There's nothing elaborate about the venue, but it's a satisfying destination for dinner and a show (patrons have first choice of seats; show-goers must choose from the remainder). The food menu includes a few steaks, swordfish, and chicken. Past engagements have featured Gary Sinise & the Lt. Dan Band, The Growlers, Billy Vera & the Beaters, John Waite, and Little Feat.
